Do you remember Jeffrey? Charles Harmison and Yoshiko Wada rescued Jeffrey from hell on September 28th. He had a major skin infection all over his body. Who has only now been given clearance to leave the vet after a 12 week stay. Imagine. It has taken 3 months for him to recuperate, he so deserves a chance. Isabella at Animal Friends Niigata is waiting to welcome Jeffrey with open arms, that... will be his new home until he is adopted. In order for Isabella to pick Jeffrey up, she has to pay the vet bill at the Minami Soma vet hospital. Jeffrey deserves to be with a wonderful shelter and out of a hospital environment before Christmas. Lets get him out of there. The Ostriches of Fukushima continue to be forgotten. We wont forget them, we are asking that they be saved too. They are wandering in the cold, looking for food, looking for shelter. They, like companion animals, are used to humans taking care of them.

We have recieved a generous donation hours ago from a couple living in Japan. What made this donation special is who this couple is. Mandy, is a volunteer at Animal Friends Niigara, you all know what staunch supporters we are of Isabella's shelter, and her husband Peter is a popular Sea Shephard in Taiji. With all the challenges the Sea Shephard's have faced this past week in Taiji with many do...lphins being killed or moved to captivity, and an unjustified arrest of a high ranking Cove Guardian, we are grateful for the support for the animals of Fukushima. The Sea Shephards care for the animals not just in the sea, but on the ground. Please always keep this in mind, they are global animal advocates. We are forever grateful, thank you.

Having broken free of their leads when they were hungry and their people werent coming back out of complete desperation? These animals are survivors. They lived through the quadruple disaster of the earthquake, tsunami, radiation and now starvation, they deserve to live. We wanted to show this video because its important to demonstrate the need to get the animals out of Fukushima. Almost every rescuer has told us the same thing, that each time they find a dog and feed them, they cant keep it down and throw up. This is due to starvation. The Hachiko Coalition would like to thank all the dog behaviourists for contacting us in the last 12 hours, thank you, we will be compiling a report for the rescuers on the ground with your advice. The animals of Fukushima need to be rescued, in order for the rescue to be successful, more than 2 groups need to be given permission to enter. The Angels were unable to catch an animal today, we are hoping for better news. Pray that the animals realize that these individuals mean them no harm and come out of their hiding places and dont fear the rescuers.

A one week permit is not enough. The Angels were unable to rescue any animals yesterday. They only managed to get close to a dog and left food and a warm blanket. The animals are very skittish in Fukushima. They have been abandoned, by people, for the last 236 days, 12 hours and 25 minutes. This is not the rescue groups faults, the days of the dogs running to cars in Fukushima begging to jump... in are long over, the animals of Fukushima have no trust as they were left to starve. The strongest and the most stubborn have survived starvation. This is not an easy task. The animals are fully aware they were abandoned. The groups need more time to develop bonds with these animals. This is a tragedy. Pray for the animals of Fukushima.

Naoto Matsumura still refuses to leave his home of Tomioka as he cares for the animals within the zone, because his biggest concern is for the animals left in the zone. He has stated he will not have enough food for them by the end of the month.

Shiro-chan will cross the rainbow bridge and lead the way for the animals of Fukushima who already perished. He will take them where there is no more suffering and pain, and where they will have a full bowl of water and food at all times. Rest in peace Shiro-chan. BREAKING NEWS: An update from UKC Japan. They have still only rescued 3 cats. They are having serious issues rescueing the dogs. They are trying to capture 8 of them but they cannot, the dogs do not trust them and are running away. The very tall grasses are preventing the rescuers from getting closer and giving chase. They are leaving water and food everywhere. This is a very big issue. This is why the groups familiar with the zone need to get permits, the Hoshi Family, Nyander Guard etc...they have been going in weekly for many months and know both the terrain, and the animals. The Government needs to ease their "requirements" and let the rescue groups in.

There still remains no concrete plans for the surviving livestock in Fukushima. Many have died of starvation. Groups have come together to save the surviving livestock. They too have the right to live after surviving the quadruple disaster of the the tsunami, earthquake, radiation and starvation. We will keep everyone updated on the status of the companion animals. So far, only two groups have confirmed they recieved permits. Seven groups have been denied. Video taken by the Hoshi family.

The high level of dog activity in front of the Tomioka webcam has escalated. In the last 72 hours coincidentally since the first rescue team entered the zone on a permit, we do not recall ever seeing so many , this is a first. What is reassuring is that their running. They wouldnt be running if they werent getting food, to have the energy to run does make us content. We have seen many dogs in Fukushima who can barely move from hunger. Now, lets all hope the rescuers can regain their trust and lure them to safety. We hope for updates today. We will certainly update you all as they are made available.

To recap today's news, the Angels Shiga rescue team has been granted a permit. They are allowed to enter the zone on the 14th for one weeks time.
They are looking for volunteers, due to this rescue mission, they rented a house in Iwaki for the animals. They need help and are calling for volunteers to care for the animals they pick up. They are also looking for volunteers at their Shiga shelter... where the animals will be transported to. Enson Inoue, famous mixed martial artist and animal advocate will be supporting the Angel's mission, doing his part volunteering. Its essential that they recieve the support that they need. Only two groups have been granted access. Seven groups to date have been denied. Here is another video of the Angels in the zone.

The Tomioka webcam once again, video taken on December 8th on UKC Japan's second day in the zone. I have never seen so much dog activity on this webcam. Ever.
As you all know we are obsessed with the Tomioka webcam because it provides us with an inside view in Fukushima. Dogs in packs are running, running from what you ask? If I had to make an educated guess, and this is just our opinion, runn...ing away from people, rescuers. Why? Because for the most part, with the exception of those who have gone in to feed regularly, these dogs, dont know what a human touch is and havent for 231 days, 14 hours and 4 minutes. Their terrified, and do not trust people at all it will take time for the rescuers to build trust, bond and bring them to safety.

BREAKING NEWS: Caught Yesterday on the Tomioka webcam within the 20 km zone. Unbelievable. We do not know if this is a UKC Japan rescue member (will try to find out), or just someone who works in the zone at the plant, whoever it is, bless you. This individual tried desperately to lure this dog. Leaving food for him even after he couldnt. The dog is injured, limping, and looks petrified, with good reason, he has been alone and fending for himself for the last 231 days, 12 hours and 7 minutes.

CONFIRMED: The Angels Shiga Rescue Group has RECIEVED a permit to enter the zone. They have been granted permission to enter on the 14th of December.
A permit is good for one week. They have rescued 600 animals from Fukushima. Here is a video profiling their work.

CONFIRMED: Minashigo Tai has applied for a permit into the zone. They are a large shelter that has rescued at least 400 animals since March in the earthquake hit areas.
As of right now, as far as we are aware, UKC Japan remains the only group given a permit. We will keep everyone up to speed on all developments. Thank you.

The Hoshi Family, as of today, will be taking to their twitter account outlining the whereabouts of animals in the zone until they get a permit, to help the group (singular, STILL, as of now) in the zone. Hoshi has the exact locations of 250 animals that his team have fed on a regular basis. We are still waiting on word of today's results, and pray for some permits being distributed. UKC Japan will try again to rescue more pets from the Fukushima Exclusion Zone. Hachiko Coalition has posted this video of one of the surviving ostriches on the Tomioka Camera.
The ostrich is seen approaching the intersection. It finally walks into the intersection. This is one of the animals that is not allowed to be rescued. It is a reminder of the animals that will not be brought out of the No-Go Zone, according to the guidelines that were set by the Government of Japan.

As of this evening, as far as we are aware, UKC Japan remains the only group that has a permit, right now, this can change quickly, at any given time. Certainly everyone is frustrated having to wait for their permits, groups like the Hoshi family are especially frustrated as he knows where the vast majority of animals are in the 20km zone, the animals know him and his team, because they are there so often feeding, they would come out of hiding. We are anxiously awaiting what the next few hours bring. In the interim, lets celebrate UKC Japan's success today with one of their eariler videos taken in the zone.

Preliminary reports coming in regarding UKC Japan's first day in the zone. They went into the zone at 9:30 am with 8 vans and 23 people; were able to trap and bring out 3 cats. Saw two dogs, one was wounded limping dog; dogs came close to eat treats but ran away and could not be caught today. Located at least a dozen cats and dogs, but will have to make multiple trips and come back daily to gain the trust of the animals who run away. We will report more as we know more. Thank you UKC Japan for being the forerunners to more animal rescues.
制限区域内でUKC Japanの最初の日が始まりました。彼らは9:30に２３人が８台のバンで制限区域内に入りトラップを使って３匹の猫を捕獲しました。２匹の犬を発見、１匹は傷をおい足を引きずっていました。犬たちはおやつに近寄ってきましたが、逃げて捕らえることができませんでした。この付近で少なくとも１２匹の猫と犬を確認しました。捕獲器をしかけ逃げた動物たちの信頼を得るため毎日戻ってくることしました。より多くを知ってもらえるよう私たちは報告をします。より多くの動物が救われるようUKC Japanへ感謝します。

UKC Japan is in the zone today. Lets hope its successful and that there will be alot of rescues by them, like this video. UKC Japan saved this dog from the zone a few months ago, 3 km's away from the nuclear plant. Other than an injured eye, he was in good health. Pray for the animals, winter is here and they all have to hang on just a little while longer.
